The Greatest Ending

I was lucky enough to get Season 7 of 24 for my Birthday this year and Becky and I finished watching it last night. As soon as it ended, Becky looked at me and said “Is that it?” – for those who know me, you will know that this upsets me. This is from someone who has never seen the Godfather films (although this is work in progress now), nor Star Wars or any of the classics. Anyway I politely replied saying “It tied up all loose ends nicely”, and it did. This brought back a conversation I had with her about a year ago when we were talking about how 24 should/could end in its final season

In the final season ever of 24 I want to see the clock tick over into “the new day”. This never happens obviously as we are restricted to seeing the events unfold in real time and in one hour slots for 24 hours, but for the final episode I want to see Jack looking out over city x with the clock overlaid ticking into the new day and Jack, for once, looks content.

I know this vision will never come true, but I really do hope they finish 24 with a bang, something to get you thinking. This leads me to what I think is the greatest season finale ever.

“Sopranos”

<spolier alert>

I can remember seeing the end of Sopranos and thinking that Tony was still alive and the song represented that, “Don’t stop believing”, but then I read this very long article about the ending and what it all represents and how it hangs together. Reading that article is a mission and something every Sopranos fan should read, which then lead me to watching the ending over and over again. The more I watch it, the better it gets.

It truly is superb
