Apple replace 1st generation iPod

My wife was lucky enough to get a 1st generation iPod nano for Christmas 6 years ago from her then, loving boyfriend. We loved that little white iPod nano, and in the end it spent it’s days in the iPod HiFi in our living room, as it had been superseded with iPhones, iPod Classics/Touches and such over the years.

Then I happened to stumble across this little treat and thought it might be worth seeing if her iPod was covered. It was, so we sent it all off.

Today, this little fellow arrived:

iPod Nano Apple Replacement

It looks to be the brand new version of the iPod nano, which is very small indeed.

That’s customer service for you.

Edit: Notice how your life changes when you have kids. The batteries are from Mothercare of all places.. A rockstar lifestyle indeed.

Word Shifting in Mac OS X Snow Leopard Terminal

We have recently started to get more mac based equipment in our department at work, and one of the issues most people have had is the ability to shift over words in the Terminal. In Ubuntu’s terminal for example, you can ALT+Arrow key left and right to jump over words etc, which is really useful. But by default this is not on in the Terminal.app which is part of Mac OS X

To turn it on you need to perform the following steps:

1. Turn the option key on as a meta character. To do this, open up Terminal and then go to Preferences > Settings > Keyboard Tab and tick “Use option as meta key”

Terminal

2. You then need to create two new key combinations, so click on the “+” icon and enter the following information:

Terminal-1

This will give you the shifting left, but we also want shifting write, so click the “+” again and this time enter:

Terminal-2

This then gives you shifting right and the ability to ALT+Backspace to delete entire words.

Isn’t that just the sweetest thing!
